The Lufft IRS31Pro-UMB is an intelligent, passive road sensor designed for flush mounting in the roadway or on runways. As a central part of a modern RWIS (Road Weather Information System), the IRS31Pro measures critical parameters such as road surface temperature, freezing point, water film thickness and salinity. By combining this data, the sensor can accurately predict the risk of ice formation before the slippery road surface actually occurs.

What makes the IRS31Pro unique is its two-piece design, which allows for easy replacement of the sensor unit for calibration or service without the need to re-excavate the road surface. The sensor measures salinity and freezing point completely passively, meaning it does not need to actively cool the surface – saving energy and providing a more representative measurement of the actual road condition. For municipalities, contractors and airports, the IRS31Pro means a drastic optimization of salting and snow removal, saving both money and the environment.

Installation & Commissioning

The sensor is mounted flush with the road surface so that its top is level with the asphalt or concrete.
