The SSR-2 from Sommer Messtechnik is a high-precision system developed specifically for the automatic and continuous detection of snow load on flat roofs. Unlike simpler ultrasonic sensors that only measure snow depth, the SSR-2 weighs the snow. This is crucial as the density of snow varies greatly; wet snow weighs significantly more than powder snow at the same depth.

The system consists of seven modular aluminum plates where the central plate acts as the active wave, while the surrounding plates create a stabilization zone to eliminate error margins caused by snow drifts and settlements. Designed to integrate seamlessly into industrial control systems, the SSR-2 is the backbone of a modern building security warning system.
